Library Services Student Assistant Guide

What is the Periodical Book Truck?

The periodical book truck holds all the current periodicals received by tech services that the library subscribes to. Desk A is responsible for shelving this book truck as part of their opening responsibilities.

The truck is generally ordered by location in the library and in alphabetical order by title. Generally, the first two boxes are current magazines and newspapers that are to be shelved downstairs on the first floor. The newest issue is kept downstairs and the older edition should be brought upstairs. Everything else should be shelved on the second floor in the periodical section. This section is in alphabetical order by title (omitting any "The" in the title). More information on what specific titles are kept downstairs and the location of the different materials can be found below.

If you are ever not sure where something goes, please ask a supervisor for help.

How to Shelve the Periodical Book Truck

    • Material on this book truck is organized by where it should be shelved

Troubleshooting

If an item is not located where you think it should be, you can double check the location by doing the following:

  • Go to lemoyne.edu/library
  • Under Search Collections, select "Find Journals"
  • Change the search type to "ISSN/ISBN equals"
  • Find the journal’s ISSN number, usually located in the first or last few pages
  • Enter the journal’s ISSN number and select "Search"
  • Select "Le Moyne College Print Titles"
  • Look at the first location listed- this is where the item should be shelved
    • If there is still not a correct label or shelf box in that section, please see a supervisor

If something does not seem right or if you have any questions, please see a supervisor:

  • Some titles will occasionally have their locations change
    • Just because a particular item was located in Current Periodicals the last time you shelved does not mean it will be located there this time
    • If there is no label or shelf box, that’s a good indication that it might not belong there anymore
