Library Services Student Assistant Guide

Loan Rules

The loan rule for every item is determined by the patron type (undergrad, grad, faculty, staff, etc.) and item type (normal book, teaching materials, DVDs, etc.). This loan rule determines how long an item can be checked out for and if it can be renewed.

For example, a faculty member can check out a normal book from book stacks for an academic year and is only allowed one renewal, while an undergraduate could check out that same book for 3 weeks with two renewals.

For specific rules please see the Circulation Policies page which outlines the basic loan rules.

Renewals

Renewals vary based on patron and item type.  Some items can be renewed twice while others might not be able to be renewed at all. Please see the circulation policies page to determine if items are renewable or not.

If an item cannot be renewed or has already exceeded its maximum number of renewals, the item must be returned. The item CANNOT be immediately checked back out to the patron. It must sit on our shelves overnight. The patron can come back and check the item out again, if still available, the next day.

Overdue Notices

Overdue notices/bills are sent out Monday—Friday. These notices are sent to the individual's Le Moyne email account. The only exception are special patrons. If the special patron has provided us with an email address, the notice will be sent there, if not, the notice will be mailed to their street address.

If a patron has a specific question about this process or concerning a notice they received, please direct them to speak with a supervisor.
