Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina was elected pope on March 13, 2013, at the age of 76. The 266th pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, he is the first Jesuit and the first to take the name Francis. He is also the first non-European leader of the church in more than 1,200 years.
