Le Moyne Library Policies

In order to provide a safe, secure, and welcoming atmosphere, conducive to the appropriate use of library facilities, staff, services, and materials, visitors of the library are expected to observe the following community standards.

• Treat staff and other library users with courtesy and consideration
• Respect other library users by keeping noise to a level that is not disruptive
• Library property (materials, equipment, facilities, etc.) will be used as intended and in a manner that does not cause damage
• Materials will be checked out prior to leaving the library
• The College allows animals in its buildings or facilities when they are serving a College-approved purpose, or meet the definition of Service Animal
• Only post materials, with prior approval from the Office of Campus Life and Leadership, on the bulletin board by the entrance. Materials should not be posted elsewhere in the library.
• Food and drink are allowed in the library with the understanding that it will be consumed and discarded in a manner that does not cause mess or damage to the facilities or property
• Children / minors are welcome in the library when accompanied by a parent, guardian, or authorized adult. For the purpose of this policy, current Le Moyne students are not considered minors.

In addition to the library’s community standards, visitors are also expected to adhere to applicable federal, N.Y. State, and local laws, as well as campus policies.

The library community standards are subject to the interpretation of library staff. Non-compliance may result in being asked to leave the library or, depending on the severity, campus security being called.

The Library strictly enforces New York State law protecting the confidentiality of circulation and interlibrary loan records, including a borrower's name, without consent of the borrower.

Borrowers have the right to protection of any personal information. NY Civ Prac Law, Section 4509 (Consol. 1982), amended 1988, protects the confidentiality of library records, except with a search warrant. Use of online databases, books, and journals provided by Noreen Reale Falcone Library is restricted by license agreements to Le Moyne College students, faculty, and staff for non-commercial, educational, or personal research purposes.

In addition to the Library’s Community Standards and the Community Standards of the Le Moyne campus, visitors are also expected to adhere to applicable federal, New York State, and local laws related to theft and vandalism.

The Noreen Reale Falcone Library provides free access to the Internet through a public-access computer located near the Library Services Desk.

In order to ensure equitable access, the use of the library’s public-access computer may be limited to 30 minutes per day.  

The Library reserves the right to ask any person not affiliated with the college to cease using a public-access computer if the library staff has reasonable grounds to believe that they are violating the College’s Acceptable Use policy or is accessing or distributing content that other users may find objectionable.
