Connect NY Service Interruption
Connect NY is migrating to a new platform during spring/summer 2021. While this change will lead to a more user-centered experience for library patrons, it does mean that our Connect NY services are unavailable until August 2021.
During this time books can still be requested from other libraries using Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Please see the box below called "requesting through Interlibrary Loan" for more information or view our "what is Interlibrary Loan?" page.
Please note that if you currently have Connect NY books checked out that renewals will not be possible.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact the ILL Department at email@example.com or call 445-4333.
Request through Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a cooperative effort among libraries to share resources. It functions much the same as Connect NY where you can request books from other libraries at no charge. The main difference is the request process.
Books were requested through Connect NY using a shared catalog where all items available at those member libraries were listed. With ILL there is no shared catalog through which to browse and request materials. Worldcat.org can be used as a substitute for the shared Connect NY catalog as it contains the holdings of most libraries around the world. This means that books, and even other materials such as journal articles and book chapters, can be requested from any library, including Connect NY member libraries. However, there is no way to make ILL requests directly from WorldCat. Instead requests are submitted by filling out the appropriate ILL request form.
Similarly to Connect NY, books and other print materials requested through ILL will be available for pick up at the Library Services Desk. As for journal articles and book chapters, those will be delivered to you electronically as a PDF.
