Library Barcode # / Username & Password Issues

If a patron has an issue accessing online library resources or requesting a book through Connect NY, please follow the below steps to check for issues with their account.

If the issue can't be resolved the same day and the students needs to access the resource immediately, please get in contact with a department supervisor by emailing libraryservicessupervisors@lemoyne.edu and we will try to do a temporary workaround (most likely by creating a temporary "dummy" account) until the issue is resolved.

  • Suggest they try the alternate login method. For instance, if they are trying to log on using their username & password and that's not working (NOTE - if this is the case, please email Pauline and Lisa. We are working with IT and need examples of student who are having this issue), have them try logging on using their name & barcode number and vice versa.
    • If student doesn't have an ID and that's why they can't use the name & barcode method bring up their patron account in Sierra to check for a barcode number there
      • Sign into Sierra by launching the desktop version or the web version
      • Within the circulation function search by patrons name by typing an n in the search box followed by the patrons last name, first name. For example: nChaudhuri, Lisa
      • Look to see if a barcode number has been assigned
        • If yes:
          • Provide student with barcode number and that will allow them to use the name and barcode login method
          • Suggest, if possible, that they pick up their ID from campus life during normal business hours (M-F 9 am - 4 pm)
        • If no:
          • They need to have a student ID generated for them in order to be assigned a barcode number. This can be done by going to Campus Life during normal business hours (M-F 9 am - 4 pm) or by following the below steps:
            • Directions:

              • Sign in to ECHO

              • Go to "Online Resources"

              • Scroll down to "My Dolph-E Card"

              • Sign in again

              • Click on the "Profile" tab

              • Click next to the picture box where it says "click to submit a new photo"

              • Follow the prompt

            • Once ID card is made, the barcode number assigned will feed into our system the next day

    • If student has an ID and still neither the user name & password or name & barcode methods work check the barcode from their patron account against the barcode number from their ID
      • To view patron account sign into Sierra by launching the desktop version or the web version
      • Within the circulation function search by patrons name by typing an n in the search box followed by the patrons last name, first name. For example: nChaudhuri, Lisa
        • If the barcode on their ID matches the barcode in patron account check to see if there are any other issues with their account by checking if their account is expired or if they have a billed item on their account
          • Account expired
            • Patrons whose account have expired no longer have access to our online resources. If they want to borrow physical books from our collection they can sign up for a special patron account
            • If they believe the expiration date is in error because they are currently registered for classes, let a department supervisor know by emailing libraryservicessupervisors@lemoyne.edu and we will work to resolve
          • Billed item
            • This will not block students from accessing our resources online but will block them from requesting books through Connect NY and checking out physical items
            • To resolve the fine the student needs to either return the book or pay the replacement costs
              • Any questions or concerns about this can be directed to a department supervisor by calling the Library Services Desk at 445-4330 and asking to speak with a supervisor or stopping by the Library Services Desk
          • If they don't have any issues with their account being expired or having a billed item on their account there is no reason why they shouldn't be able to access our resources. Verify student is trying to access resources we own/have access to and that they are are logging in correctly.
            • If they still can't access these resources, let a department supervisor know by emailing libraryservicessupervisors@lemoyne.edu and we will work to resolve
        • If barcode number on ID doesn't match barcode number in the patron record:
          • Ask the student if they just got a replacement card issued today
            • If yes:
              • The new barcode number will feed into our system tomorrow. In the meantime they can use the old barcode number. Provide patron with the barcode number from Sierra.
            • If no:
              • Provide patron with the barcode number from Sierra and advise the student that they should get a new ID card from Student Life. For the time being, the barcode number you provided will allow the student to access our resources
  • If none of these steps resolves the issue please get in contact with one of the library services department supervisors by emailing libraryservicessupervisors@lemoyne.edu
