Library Services Student Assistant Guide

Monday, 18 March 2024

Welcome Back!       And Thank You to Team Spring Break!

1) FREE LITTLE ART GALLERY: On your first shift back, please go over to the Free Little Art Gallery, check out the display, and read the signs. The Origami Kit is located on the shelf below DVD reserves in the back. Closers-- you will have to turn the light off each night. (On the left side of light itself, inside the box)

2) RECEIPTS TO PATRONS: You must now purposefully select the PRINT button in Sierra to send email receipts to patrons. (Before, you could select CLOSE and it would prompt you to send an email). This MUST be done for every borrow transaction please. Before break, I received multiple complaints that no email with due dates was ever received.

3) EASTER MONDAY SHIFTS, April 1st: The regular schedule resumes at 2:30pm on the Monday after Easter, which is April 1st. Please double-check your calendar and find coverage if you need it,  before you leave. (The library is closed on Good Friday and on Easter Sunday)

4) TO CONFIRM: Please email Michele with Easter weekend availability (even a 'no' if you are leaving town) . We have shifts on: Thursday, March 28th from 7:45am-5pm; Saturday, March 30th from 8:45am-5pm; Monday, April 1 from 8:45am-2:30pm.  As stated above, your shift will be the same as always on Easter Monday.

Friday, 1 March 2024

Please join me in welcoming BONITA to the team! Our 2 resident skeletons are Stan and Bonita.

1) Printing while on shift: Please be mindful of which printers you are using for personal copies while on shift. You must use LBP 806 for black and white, or LIB-HPE 45028 for color pages (in IT area). Please do NOT use LIB 553.

2) Spring Break Schedule: Sunday, March 17th's schedule is the regular semester schedule. Please find coverage before you leave if you will not be back on campus. (Spring Break is March 9 -17)

3) Muserlian and Bernat Reservations Calendar: On your next shift, please explore astra.lemoyne.edu to learn how to find what is scheduled in the Muserlian Instructional Lab and Bernat Special Events Room. We are experiencing increased questions at the desk about where meetings are and if the rooms are available. As a reminder, the library does not have scheduling access to these rooms. People have to submit a request to the Events team by using Astra. (Calendars --> Scheduling Grids --> Choose Calendar --> Le Moyne Campus Calendar)

4) To confirm that you have read these announcements, send an email to Michele. The subject line should answer this question: what will be happening in the Muserlian Lab on March 13th at 1pm? Thanks so much.

Tuesday, 20 February 2024

Happy Tuesday All! No classes tomorrow, Wednesday the 21st. Yay!!

1) Hiring for Fall/Spring 2024-25 now openThe application for students to apply for Access Services for Fall is open on the library website. Navigate to "About Us" --> "About Us (more...)" --> Work at the Library. Please inform students that they will not hear back about an interview until after March 15th.

2) Dry-erase marker bin: Hopefully you have noticed that the dry-erase markers fit better in the bin when stored vertically. Please continue to place returned markers in the BACK. No need to rush so let's keep it neat and in rotation.

3) Time cards: About 50% of you are adding your time in Phinfo at the beginning of each shift. Thank you! The only stumbling block is that during the week when time cards are due, Payroll does not re-open your time cards for the next pay period until Thursday-ish. A calendar reminder for Fridays might help if you find this difficult. Always hit "Submit for Approval" too please.

4) Headcount: If the headcount alarm rings when the Desk B person is in the back room for AFD, and you are on Desk A, please inform them that the headcount alarm went off.

5) TO CONFIRM that you have read this, please drag this Google Form Poll to another tab and choose your answer.

Happy 100 Nights to All of Our SENIORS! No matter how you choose to acknowledge the date, be sure to take a moment to celebrate!!

1) Updated closing procedures: Even if you typically do not work a closing shift, please take a moment now to peruse the highlighted closing procedures in your Student Guide. You never know when you might grab a shift that needs coverage, plus, we all monitor how the library looks during our shifts.

2) Assigning coverage shifts to teammates: Please monitor your coverage-request emails closely. The first person to respond should be given the shift. Be sure and check for responses often, especially in the first hour. Thank you to all who are able and willing to grab shifts.

3) Card-entry hours reminder: Desk B is responsible for locking the 3 doors when card entry begins: Mon -Thurs is 8pm; Fri-Sun is 4:30pm. An alarm is set and labeled on the I-Pad. This is important to remember if you take a shift during these hours that you typically do not work. Ultimately though, both assistants on duty should be aware of those times and take care of locking. We do this as a security measure to ensure that only LMC people enter the building.

4) Conversations at the desk: Excellent customer service means you are ready and available to help. Please be aware of and limit visits at the desk. If you are alone at the desk, please do not have personal conversations that last longer than a minute or so.

5) Inappropriate behaviors procedures: If you or a library patron see or hear inappropriate behaviors happening, please call Security and let them handle it. (x4444) It is great that you inform the supervisors when this happens so that we can monitor for trends and ask to review cameras.

6) TO CONFIRM that you have read this announcement, please email Michele and let her know about 1 transferable skill that you have acquired while working here at the library. Thanks so much everybody!

Happy End of Week 4 Everybody!

Have you thought about your All-in-tine's Day plans yet? Share the love with all of your loves!!!

1) Parental interventions: we are receiving more and more phone calls from parents with all sorts of questions. The problem arises when they ask us to access their child's library account, to renew books for example. This is a breach of privacy. Please do not proceed. This means that you must  always verify that the person with whom you are speaking is the owner of the account. Let them know that the student is the only person who can access the account.

2) Non-library staff behind the front desk: please do not allow visitors behind the desk.

3) Headcount: we are seeing an unsettling number of headcounts not taking place so let's clarify:

  • The only time at which headcount does not have to get done is if you are absolutely alone at the front desk (no supervisor behind you, nobody on AFD).
  • Assistants who are STARTING their shifts at headcount hours are responsible for conducting the count. To avoid change-of-shift- confusion, we have adjusted the I-Pad alarm to 5 past the hour.
  • AFD shifts that would have been on Desk B should still conduct headcount during the AFD shift. I have added your assigned desk letter to the AFD shifts on the calendar to help avoid confusion.

4) Anonymous suggestion/incident form: please be sure to make use of this anonymous form to report any concerns or ideas you have that you may not feel comfortable handling in a direct email. For example, if a colleague routinely brings a full meal to the front desk during the shift, report it. If a patron is engaging in inappropriate behaviors in a study room, report it. If you want to start a book-exchange shelf to share pleasure- reading books that you buy, submit a report. It is located in the Student Guide -->Library Information tab. You must be logged on to your Le Moyne email account to access the form.

5) Reserve items: We continue to see fewer and fewer reserve items that were not checked in properly. Thank you very much!

6) TO CONFIRM that you have read these announcements: please email Michele with a name suggestion for the new skeleton. Our veteran skeleton is Stan, by the way.

Friday, 26 January 2024

Hi Everybody!

We hope that you had a strong and successful week! Are you stressed or struggling---what can we do to help?

1. Signing out of the computers: it is very important that you purposefully SIGN OUT of the computers at the end of your shifts. If you do not, then you remain logged in to Sierra, which prevents others in the library (librarians, tech services & archives student assistants) from using Sierra, due to a limited number of licenses. "Switch user" does NOT log you off of the computer.

2. NEW & POPULAR books: have you seen that the new books are on display in front of the staircase? We will also be moving the games and more books to the atrium area soon! If you have any book recommendations, don't hesitate to let us know!

3. SENIORS: have you started to plan for your 100 Nights Celebration?

No confirmation email needed for this announcement.

Friday, 19 January 2024

Happy Friday Everyone!

It has been a pretty successful first-week-back so thank you for your attention to detail and care for the success of our team and fellow patrons.

1) GIMLET

An important component of your work at the front desk is to log EVERY reference, directional, or technology question that you answer. We  are noticing a very sharp decline in Gimlet recording so please log them all, to include phone calls and questions from fellow staff members. ("Can I check this out/in" is one of the few that does not need recording)

2) RELAXATION STATION ITEMS

The 8pm headcount person is officially responsible for resetting the items in the relaxation station. However, we are all responsible for returning items to the station whenever they are left somewhere, like in study rooms or lounge areas, etc. If an item is missing, please report it immediately to one of the supervisors, either verbally or by email. The stickers for each item tell how many there should be. One of the Happy Lights is missing as well as a pair of noise-reducing ear muffs.  Also, we are aware that one of the pedaling machines is in the on-call office for the librarians. By keeping us apprised, we can determine if we should continue to invest $ in it.

3) RESERVES

It was not a brilliant start for our reserve items--each day this week there were multiple items that had not been checked-in. I really think that if you take your time and are focused on the desk tasks, this issue will resolve itself, like it did last semester. Library work has to be the priority.

TO CONFIRM that you read this announcement, please email me with suggestions on how we might improve our procedures. I appreciate and learn from your feedback. If you have no suggestions, just send a blank email with "None" as the subject line.

Tuesday, 16 January 2024

Welcome Back and Happy New Year Team Access Services!

Here are are few items for you to review:

1) We do not have any more lockable plastic cases for DVDs. We will not shelve the DVDs until they arrive. If you cannot locate a DVD, please be sure to check the pre-shelving area.

2) Reserves: please be sure to remind all patrons about the 2 or 3 hour, in-library-use-only rule when checking reserve items out. We do have newly enrolled students and students who have never visited the library before so they may not be familiar with this limitation. Remember to NOT desensitize reserve items.

3) Books to pick up: students sometimes come to library to pick up books that they ordered at the bookstore at the start of each semester. If a student comes up to desk and says they have books to pick up, you might want to clarify if they are looking for ILL or bookstore books.

4) Time cards procedure: please fill in your time card at the beginning of each shift you work. Also be sure to open a tab with your email to peruse for work-related emails at the beginning of each shift.

5) Tissues: we will eventually have more tissues but they will not be for the public, so let's not keep a box on display at the front desk. Please direct patrons to the bathrooms for toilet paper.

6) Please remember to email the supervisor email for general issues. This way, if one of us is out of the office, another one of us will be able to help resolve/answer, especially on weekends. (libraryservicessupervisors@lemoyne.edu)

7) TO CONFIRM that you have read this email, please email Michele. Let me know what the best part of your break was.

Wednesday, 29 November 2023

Hi Team!

1) We have a new book display that encourages patrons to borrow books through the winter break.

There is a bookmark in each book that tells you to change the due date to January 20, 2024. Please

take your time to avoid billing to the bursar. Here is the bookmark:

2) There is also a Winter Solstice breakout box on the front desk that can be checked out.

3) Feel free to make an advent calendar ornament to hang on our Christmas tree. The box with

directions and supplies is under the tree.

TO CONFIRM that you read this, please email me with an idea for a small stocking stuffer. $5 range.

Try your best to stay healthy!!

Friday, 10/27/23 Announcement

  • 1) Pizza Party Contest: If we can go 1 week (this Sunday to Saturday) without having missed checking in any reserve items (to include  anatomy  models), I am going to throw a lunch-time pizza party. (Gluten free and vegetarian too, of course!)

  • 2) Security Directives: If the Security team tells you to proceed at closing in a manner that is different from our set procedures (lighting, leaving before their sweep), you are  allowed to follow their directive. Please be sure, however, that your closing tasks are complete and that you do not  log out of  Sierra until closing time.
  • 3) Halloween costumes: feel free to dress up during your library shift on Halloween (Tuesday).

  • 4) TO CONFIRM that you have read this announcement, please email Michele with either your favorite pizza topping (s) or favorite        local pizzeria.

Enjoy your weekend and take care--colds and other illnesses are spreading quickly on campus.

Friday, 10/20/23 Announcement

1) Thank you! I wanted to take a moment to thank the openers and closers for paying attention to the details of the tasks

that happen during those shifts. We are very close to perfection. ALL STAFF are reminded that the Student

Guide contains all steps for opening, closing, and 9pm relaxation station re-set. This also helps when you take shifts

outside of your regularly scheduled ones.

2) Halloween lights and stained glass window lights: Openers and closers: please turn on/off the stained glass window lights and Halloween

lights (plugged in near the inside book drop.)

3) TO CONFIRM that you read this announcement: Please email Michele with a suggestion(s) for healthy-ish snacks that we could

                                                                                         distribute during final exams week.

Friday, 10/13/23 Announcement

Thursday, 9/28/23 Announcement

Anatomy Models Reorganized

Please take a look at the new and improved anatomy model section of our workroom, during your next shift:

  • The bones are labeled and shelved by "theme" and the call numbers have been removed.
  • The organs are shelved from top to bottom, brain --> reproductive system.
  • There is a corner in the FORMER cart parking area, that also has more systems. (We will store fewer carts in that area.)

Please take your time when returning the bins to their proper location.

Thanks for the input that many of you offered about this area. We love new ideas to make things run smoother.

Textbook Reserves

1) The purple and red stickers that help us identify RESERVES take precedence  when re-shelving, no matter what collection they belong in. So if a Youth Literature book has a purple sticker, please re-shelve it on the reserve shelf. (You will also see Reference, Oversize...)

2) Please be more attentive about checking-in all items, BUT ESPECIALLY phone chargers and reserves. Please keep distractions like excess homework and visiting friends to low-profile/minimal.

To confirm that you have read this announcement, please email me and tell me the color of the shirt you are wearing.

9/1/23 (Friday) Announcement

Harassing / Stalking/ Uncomfortable Situation Procedure:

If you find yourself, or any other library visitor, in an uncomfortable or harassing situation:

  1. Take yourself and/or the other person to a safe space away from the aggressor (an office, the back workroom)
  2. Call security, x4444, from a location away from the aggressor. (to prevent provocation) Wait in safe space until they arrive,
  3. Consult the Title IX posters that are taped to the side of the first textbook reserve shelf, if you or the visitor would like to escalate the report to Melissa Moore.
  4. Feel free to submit an Incident Reporting Form to let the library supervisor team know what happened. (https://resources.library.lemoyne.edu/library-services-student-assistant-guide/incident_report)

Your safety is of utmost importance, so take good your of yourself and each other.

8/27/23

1) Reminder: After or during EVERY shift, for the next 2 weeks-ish, please complete the Student Assistant Checklist.

  • Your submission will confirm that you read this announcement. (No Google form)

2) On the day of your birthday, may I post an announcement on our new TV screen? If yes, please email me your birthdate and the word "yes".

8/23/23 Announcement

NEW STUDENT ID CARDS:

1) It takes 24 hours for a LMC ID card to be uploaded to Sierra. Therefore, if a patron comes in to borrow an item and both a barcode search and a name search are unsuccessful, please record the patron's name, their ID barcode number, the item title, and the item's barcode. There is a spreadsheet at the front desk.

2) There is also a copy of the "Fall Arrival" schedule at the front desk, in case of questions from new students and parents. Let's go above and beyond to make our new arrivals feel welcome and calm.

7/27/23 Announcement

NEW Sierra Check-Out Process

Due to a software update in Sierra, a new process for checking out items must be followed. This ensures that library patrons receive an email with their due dates.

  • 1. As always, be sure that the receipt printer is set to "Email to patron" (File--> Select printer--> Receipt printer--> Email to patron--> OK)
  • 2. Scan the patron id bar code.
  • 3. In the "Check out" banner under the patron information, click on the orange button to the right that is set at "Due slip: no slip", to change it to "Due slip: print".
  • 4. Scan/check out each item.
  • 5. After scanning all of the items, click "Close" in the top right corner. This is the step that generates the message to which you respond 'yes': Send email to..."--> Yes

It is now essential that you close the patron account after each transaction.

Please practice these steps at the beginning of your shift and ask any questions you might have.

5/26/23 Announcement

Summer Procedures

This year's summer workflow has to be different since we only have 1 student worker at the desk during daytime weekday hours, and we only have 1 person doing AFD. Here are the summer procedures modifications:

1) The Grewen book drop has been closed and Reilly Hall is closed, so we do not have to go there this summer.

2) Shelving: please be attentive to pre-shelving and book trucks. When items and carts build up, please make a truck or shelve a cart. Even if there is not a huge build-up and business is slow, please help with shelving. We are all on AFD duty this summer.

3) Periodical book truck: please check the cart in tech services every day, Mon-Fri. Items will be there sporadically.

4) Veteran student assistants are considered to be trainers to our new group of student employees. Thank you for being patient and showing how things are processed/done.

We appreciate your dedication and flexibility this summer!

5/2/23 Announcement

Happy End of the Semester Everybody!

1. Rally Call

  • In an effort to avoid mistakes that are popping up more frequently, I want to encourage you to take your time while on shifts and to devote your attention first, to customer service. School and personal tasks should not be your priority.
    • Immediately check-in "reserve" items and be sure to click 'yes" to check-in. Please do not leave them on the front desk until later; remember to shelve them on the "on reserve" shelving.
    • Take your time while checking items out to patrons--please be sure that you have the correct patron account open by asking them for their first name (if they do not present their card). Please do not say the first name on the account--that should come from them, to ensure the privacy of all patrons. Close the check-out window after each patron.
    • Verify that the correct plugs are returned for phone/computer chargers. We are now short a USB-c Apple charger because the wrong cable was returned in the bag. Please open each bag and double check.
    • Verify that erasers and all markers are in the white board bags. Please file returns neatly in the back of the bin.
    • Please minimize chatting with friends at the front desk. Anything beyond a couple (3-4) of minutes is too long.
    • If you cover a shift that you are not familiar with, please read the desk procedures when you begin and end the shift, especially regarding locking and unlocking the front doors.
    • Please complete all opening and closing tasks. For example, closers are preparing the building for the next morning by moving furniture back to correct positions/rooms, cleaning up the Muserlian lab, and collecting markers and erasers from all study rooms.

2. Tiny Art

If any artists would like their paintings back, they are free to take them.

2/15/2023 Announcement

Hope everyone enjoyed Valentine's Day!

1. Door issues

  • We continue to have issues with the front doors being locked (or unlocked) and we have communicated about the issues with Security, but the officers seem to still be confused.
  • As a reminder, the two students working when our card entry time begins, 8 pm Monday-Thursday, 4:30 pm Friday-Sunday, are expected to lock the inside set of three doors. The fourth door (handicap accessible automatic opener) should not be manually locked.
  • The outside set of doors are not locked manually by us or Security.

2. Be Well + Thrive collection

  • Our new Be Well + Thrive collection books will have a "display change" notice pop up when they are returned. Please bypass this notice by clicking "No" to leave the display status the same. Please immediately re-shelve the books on the dedicated shelf by the stairs (*do not put in pre-shelving area in back workroom*).
  • Please share any ideas you have to add to the Be Well + Thrive collection with Michele or send an email to library@lemoyne.edu

1/27/2023 Announcement

1. UPDATE: Technology at the Desk

A few of you have shared unique academic needs that iPads meet, so we are allowing those to be used at the desk (keep flat if possible). Please remember when using technology to regularly monitor activity around the Services Desk. We would like all of our visitors to feel welcomed and show that we are ready to help!

2. E-book link errors - assist with reliable links

We switched to new software to link to our databases, and some of the e-books provided by those databases are not linking correctly from the catalog. If a visitor asks about an e-book link problem, rather than using the link from the catalog, you can create a link for the e-book directly from the database.

The databases that provide e-books are listed in the left column of our E-books page at https://resources.library.lemoyne.edu/e-books

Example:

Please try to use the E-book page to open a database that provides e-books, find an e-book, and identify the direct link for that book before completing the form below.

Feel free to contact any of the Librarians for help or with questions! Thank you.

1/24/23 Announcement

Clean In/Clean Out

Please remember to clean your work area before and after your shift. This includes the keyboard, mouse, phone (please only lightly clean the receiver and front of the phone) the scanner, and the arms and back of the chair. This is an important measure to prevent the spread of any illnesses and keep everyone on staff healthy.

New Special Patron PIN Number

We now have made it so special patron's can access their library account online with their special patron barcode number and a PIN number. Any special patrons who were already in the system have their PIN number set to the last 4 digits of the phone number we have on file for them. New special patrons will be able to set the PIN number to whatever they want, however we recommend having them set it to the last 4 digits of their phone number to make it easy and consistent. So in addition to adding the email address from the insert drop down, you will now be adding the PIN number through the same insert drop down as well. We will also be writing their PIN number on their application in the same area where we record their driver's license information. There is a set area for this to be written on the application. The printed instructions inside the special patron bin have been updated with this new procedure, as well as the student guide. I would recommend looking at the printed directions during any down time since there are pictures included that make this new process a bit clearer.

Technology at the Desk

Please remember that laptops and headphones are not allowed to be used/worn at the desk. We are also no longer allowing iPads to be used at the desk. If you need to use your laptop briefly for something please make sure to ask the supervisor first. We need to make sure that we are providing the highest level of service to patrons which means that library responsibilities must come first before personal and school work.

1/14/23 Announcement

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a refreshing, restful, and relaxing winter break. It's the start of a new year and a new semester and we are so happy and excited to have everyone back on campus in the next few days. There are a few housekeeping things that I wanted to make sure to share with you all, so please make sure to read closely.

Anatomy Model Shuffle

Our Anatomy Model Collection has been shuffled around a bit to accommodate lots of new models! Please make sure to note that the collection now starts on the very back wall, on the same shelves as the pre-shelving shelves.

Incident Reporting and Suggestion Form

This was announced at the end of Fall semester that we introduced an anonymous form to make it easier to report any issues with others that may happen in the building. We have now modified this form so that it can also be used for anonymous suggestions as well. So if you have suggestions either about our department or the library in general, please make sure to share!

Student Assistant Checklist

Students who did not work the entirety of winter break will need to complete the student assistant checklist for the first couple of weeks! This is just to help you get back into the swing of things. As a reminder, this form can be found under the Guidelines for Student Workers page. Please keep submitting the form until you receive an email from a Supervisor that you no longer need to complete the form. This form should be done at the end of each shift.

I think that's it for now! Please let us know if there are questions. Have a great start to the semester!

11/22/22 Announcement

Incident Reporting Form

We have created an incident reporting form to make it easier to report issues involving a Le Moyne employee, a coworker, or visitor to the library. This form is completely anonymous so please make sure to be honest and complete when reporting issues. We realized it might feel uncomfortable to some of you to email us when there is an issue with another employee or individual, especially if that individual is someone who might have considerably more seniority than you. You can find this form under library information--incident reporting. The supervisors have it set up so we receive notifications when this form is submitted so we will know when there is an issue.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. We want to make sure we are creating a safe, healthy work environment for all.

11/14/22 Announcement

Checking Email and Coverage Help!

This is just a friendly reminder that we need everyone to be checking their emails at least 3 times a day for important emails from our team. This is how we will be alerting you all to last minute changes in procedures, coordinating scheduling, and coverage. It is very important that you read these emails as some of you only work during times where there is no supervisor scheduled. By not checking your email, coverage becomes very challenging to manage and we want to avoid at all costs having someone work alone. Also, I am not able to schedule for the different times throughout the year that we schedule (fall, breaks, finals week, winter intersession, spring, and summer) if I do not hear back from those who are able/responsible for working. This means that we might have to shorten the hours we are able to offer if we cannot staff the hours we are planning on being open. Please check emails from us and other students on staff consistently.

Calling Security With Valuables

It is very important that security is called right away if someone turns in something that is deemed valuable (such as a wallet, keys, laptop chargers, airpods, etc) so that the guard is alerted to come pick up the item. While it is a nice thought to wait and see if the person who lost the item might come back for it soon, we would rather security be called right away. If the person does come we can either let them know the item is with security, or return the item to them and let security know that the item has been picked up. Leaving notes isn't helpful because we've found ultimately nothing gets done with the item which can be a risk for the library should the item get lost in our possession.

Calculators Can Now Leave the Library!

We have been working on changing the circulation rules so that all calculators can now leave the library and will be checked out for 5 days. The changes should all be made soon, but if you do come across a calculator that only checks out for 3 hours, let a supervisor or librarian know and we can override it.

Library Work and Customer Service Must Take Priority

We've noticed lately that some library tasks have not been preformed at the proper time. We've also noticed that awareness to what is going on at the desk has also changed, causing delays in helping patrons. It is very important that you are prioritizing your tasks as a student assistant first before working on outside work. This includes any desk responsibilities you are responsible for, helping patrons who come to the desk, and completing projects as asked by a supervisor or librarian. Only after everything has been completed should you be working on other work, while being sure to remain aware and attentive. While we want to support you all in your classwork, if this issue persist we might need to change our policy regarding homework at the desk, or a warning may need to be issued.

Because we have noticed that people are checking out multiple reserves at a time, and not returning these items on time, which limits someone else's access to these items, reserves are now limited to the same one item per checkout rule as anatomy models. An override box will pop up if more than one reserve item is checked out to a patron's account.

Me and White Supremacy Books

In a box on the hold shelf there are copies of the book Me and White Supremacy waiting for pick up. Taped to the box is the list of the names of those who will be picking up a copy of this book. When the person arrives to pick up their book, please grab a copy from the box, cross their name off of the list, and hand them the book. THESE BOOKS DO NOT NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT.

New Anatomy Model Procedure

We are asking everyone when an anatomy model kit is returned to count how many pieces are in the kit to make sure all the pieces have been returned. Each kit should have the number of pieces in the set printed on the tag/label for the kit. Please ask the patron to wait while you count the pieces because if there are any missing they will be held responsible for that piece.

DVD Players, and Other Additions!

We added so many new things to the collection that I wanted to share a brief list with you. We now have:

  • Two DVD players that can be checked out to use in the dorms if someone is interested in watching a movie but does not own a DVD player. The set comes with all the necessary equipment they will need, and the DVD players have a 7 day loan period
  • Portable DVD players with screens: these are meant for people who might not have a means to watch DVDs that are on reserve for their course. These can only be used in the library for 3 hours.
  • USB-C Chargers for android/windows and Apple products: we have one USB-C charger that is specifically for new Apple Macbooks, and we also have a few USB-C chargers that can be used for both android/windows and Apple products
  • New anatomy models: some models we added include a tongue model, an intestinal model, a newer kidney model that includes more parts, and a full skeleton model. Make sure to check the anatomy model page for the most update list of the models we own!

Reserve Reminders/Request

As a reminder, please make sure you are checking reserve items (including the models) back in when they are returned. I've been seeing a lot more instances where there is an overdue notice generating for these items because they were not checked in when they were returned. While we do not charge fines anymore, it's still really important to check these items in because they will show up as checked out in the catalog, which will prevent someone who needs to use the resource or item from borrowing it because they will think it is currently loaned out. Please make sure you are taking an extra moment to check and make sure something has been checked in before bringing it to the back.

To help make sure that reserve items are staying in the library, we are asking everyone to resensitize reserve items when they are returned. While theoretically the item should not be desensitized, we are asking everyone to take this extra step to help ensure that these items are not leaving the library.

Grewen and Reilly Clarification

We know some of you expressed some confusion on when the book drop in Grewen and the Faculty Copy Room in Reilly are checked. Just to clear up any confusion, we only check (and deliver to) Reilly and Grewen during the week.

Customer Service Reminder

As a general reminder, everyone's first priority should be helping people at the desk. This means that you must be paying close attention to what is going on around you. If you have completed your responsibilities and there is no one waiting for help, then you may work on other work. We have found that some people have not been paying as close attention as they should be to people at the desk. If this continues, we will have to make changes to our policy regarding technology at the desk.

If you have any questions, please let us know!

Student Assistant Checklist

As a reminder, everyone should be filling out the student assistant checklist after each shift that they worked. This included returning students and students who worked over the summer. This means that if you are scheduled to work both desk and then and AFD shift afterward, that you should be filling out the checklist twice--once for the desk shift and once for the AFD shift. You will find the checklist under Guidelines for student workers.

Asynchronous Training

For those of you who are returning, we do have two modules on the asynchronous training site for you to complete. The other modules are option but can be reviewed as a refresher. Please go to the Asynchronous Student Training tab for directions on how to sign in and complete the training. This training can be completed on the desk or during AFD.

Renovation Headcount

Please use the reference iPad to complete the new floorplan headcount in order to make it easier for you to complete. There is a bookmark to the headcount page on the home screen of the iPad if the page is not up already.

As always if you have any questions please let us know!
