Best Bets for Microbiology Research

Use any of the databases below to find a scholarly, peer-reviewed articles for your microbiology research.

If you are pre-med, pre-PA, pre-dental, etc. you might want to consider using the following databases, which are focused on the medical/health professions:

In addition to databases that focus on the health sciences, you can explore the following more general science databases:

  • Google Scholar: Search the scholarly literature across many disciplines and sources.
  • Science Direct: Publisher's platform of 2,000+ full text scholarly journals with coverage from 1995 to present
  • Scopus: Bibliographic database containing abstracts and citations for academic journal articles.

How to Get the Full Text of Articles

1. Click on any link in your abstract that says "Full Text" to see if it will bring you to the full article.

2. Check the Journal Finder to see if we subscribe to that e-journal. If we do subscribe to that e-journal, simply click through to the correct issue and then the correct article. (Look at your citation to find this information).

3. If neither of those options gets you full text, you may be able to get it via interlibrary loan. Depending on your article, you could receive it via email (at the address you specify) in a few hours or a few days—but it's usually quick!
