Using Library Resources in an Online Course

This guide is intended to assist faculty in using library resources for online courses. Contact your subject librarian if you would like help embedding library resources in your course.

Consider a Course Page

To assist with an assignment or to better direct students in a course, librarians will create a course page geared to your students' needs.

Here are some examples of guides that have been developed for face to face courses:

Search the Catalog Here to Retrieve ONLY E-books

This search box below is customized to limit the results to ebooks.

For example, the search terms, "neely lincoln" combines the author's last name with a word from the book title to retrieve Mark Neely's book "The last best hope of earth Abraham Lincoln and the promise of America." It does not find the other print books on Lincoln this author has written.

Try something inside this customized box:   for example,  wine history

    Use Library Course Reserve System!

Yes, even in an online course.  The library makes the fair use assessment, gets permission if needed, and makes the scans for you.

Copy the link from course reserves "page" for your section and place THAT in Canvas.
